Synopsis:

"Bedford: The Town They Left Behind" is a hard-hitting documentary about World War II, as seen through the eyes of a small Virginia town called ‘Bedford’, which suffered more casualties per capita than any other town in the U.S.

Among the first to land on the shores of Normandy on D-Day, the brave soldiers from Bedford sacrificed everything for the country they loved, and a cause they were willing to die for.

Sixty years later, echoes of the past travel with young, fresh-faced members of the National Guard (in the same unit that claimed so many Bedford lives) as they are deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. This cross-generational story – at times tragic, romantic and inspiring – is a powerful, emotional look at those who go to the battlefronts and those they leave behind.
