More than 30,000 spectators are expected to cheer on 12 yacht match-racing teams as they battle it out in one of the world’s most important sailing races in November. Held during Malaysia’s monsoon season, the race is one of the most dangerous and exhilarating championships in the sailing calendar.

This year’s event features two-times World Match Racing Tour-winner Peter Gilmour and World Champion Ian Williams and many of the America’s Cup skippers and teams including legends Paolo Cian, Magnus Holmberg and Bjorn Hansen. Past events have attracted celebrity supporters including Jackie Chan, George Benson and Ferrari Boss Jean Todt, Memoirs of a Geisha star Michelle Yeoh and the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

With a prize of over One Million Ringgit ($300,000), this is the world’s richest sailing event. Kuala Terengganu is well known on the sailing circuit, it was a stop for Dame Ellen MacArthur’s record setting Asian Record Circuit Tour in 2006.
